Yep....I was a fan of Leeds in the 1970s. Donny was always my first team.....but I used to love watching Leeds United and Sheffield United on a Sunday afternoon.... listening to Keith Macklin. I've met Mick Bates a few times. He was from the same village in Donny as me..Armthorpe.....and was on first name terms with my dad.

Never had a choice when it came to which football team I was going to support...... I was born in Heath Place (100 yards from the stadium), my old fella used to go to all the games and drink with the players in the local bars, then he started taking me when I was 3 years old - in 1975 (just as the good times finished ). Even though I live in a different country now and my kids are good Irish children (with Yorkshire accents ;D ) there is only one team shirt that they are wanting to pull on and that's the Leeds United one...... ....either that or they lose a finger every time they ask for a Chelsea one.

....either that or they lose a finger every time they ask for a Chelsea one. ;D ;D ;D I saw Leeds play a few of times in the 1970s, but mostly it was watching them on telly on a Sunday afternoon. I can recall one game when they put 7 goals past Southampton...and it was the most complete (in the sense of passing, moving, shooting) game of football I have ever seen. They were simply sublime, and stringing together 20 and 30 thirty passes at will. Great to watch. UNBELIEVABLE Guess what I have just found on youtube Leeds 7-0 SouthamptonEven more remarkable when you see how crappy the pitch is....and the footballs in those days weren't exactly helpful.

I saw it on the telly with Keith Macklin doing the commentary.....now he wasn't a Leeds fan was he It was one the most one sided performances I've seen...and according to my mate...went...the hilights didn't do the game justice. It was some team though WG.... years ahead of their time. exiled It looked like Leeds could have scored at will!! Did you see the pitch as well?
