Got to share this little tale with you all ........because my minds blown away by it.
For several weeks now i have had the idea to organise a re-union for my old Sunday morning footie team,it was more than just a footie team and had a very good social side to it,a typical sunday would begin with a meet at a transport cafe near Wakefield for a full English to compensate for the amount of alcohol consumed in some club the night before.
We then set off to where we were playing and played our match, the pub we played for was a bit of a young un's establishment and we had a fair following watching us attempt to play the beautiful game, afterwards it was back to the pub and that's when the day really started, more often than not we stayed all day and around 7pm the DJ turned up and the disco started,it was a really popular venue and was packed to the rafters every sunday night........with wall to wall totty, inevitably we all copped off at some stage, this would be around 1982,and so with ABC's Poison Arrow blasting away,a pint in one hand and some ra ra skirted gal in the other it was a great way to end the weekend for a "work the next day" 20 year old.
Anyway i made a start trying to re-organise this union and went on facebook,i had no joy what so ever and could not trace one single person, just when i was about to give it all up i put an old girlfriends name in the search engine ....we went out for two years 1982-84 and she was my first serious relationship, now bear in mind the last time i saw her was 24 years ago and its fair to say she would have married and there-fore changed her maiden name by now, imagine my suprise when the search engine produced her right in front of me on my screen.....i nearly died....now i am thinking is it really her,her photo had a resembelence but not a convincing one and i started to get doubt's.....as you do....but she had a really unusual christian name .......April.... but her surname was still the same,i sat on it a few days and then thought what the hell......and so i sent her a message.
Two days later i received a message back from her confirming yes it was her and how's my mum and dad ?,am i married ?,how many kids ? and what have you,i replied back and filled in the details of the last 24 years, she replied back that she was single again, she had divorced 2 years ago ......but no kids.....and her surname had not changed because she married a guy with the same surname as her........you could not get odds on this at the bookies surely !!!!....she's now 41 years old and a manager for a pharmacy company in Huddersfield..........we are going to meet up for a drink and a chat next weekend, talk about life being full of suprise's.
