I am running another quiz. The questions will be more or less the same as before.... but with just one set of football questions. The cryptic and anagrams take ages to compile.. so even though they will be some in.... it won't be as many as last time.
The format of the quiz will be run differently. The individual league will remain the same. The member scoring the highest number of correct answers over the weeks will win the individual league. Teams, however, will compete directly against each other on a round-robin basis. If there are 4 teams taking part, it will constitute 2 fixtures. The same set of question will apply to both fixtures but your teams' accumulative score will only be set against the team you are competing against. If your team scores 27 out of 30 and your opponents 26/30... you will be awarded 3pts for a win. If tied, 1pt will go to each side. Further points can be achieved through bonus points. You will be able to earn up to a maximum of 3 bonus points. 1 bonus point will be awarded for every 10 questions you get right (i.e. 2 bonus points for 20 correct answers, 3 bonus points for 30 correct answers). Theoretically any team will be able to score a maximum of 6pts per game, providing the other team fails to answer all their questions correctly and they do.
So for example:
Team A 28 v 30 Team B
Team C 19 v 26 Team D
1) Team B 6pts (3pts for a win + 3 bonus pts for 30 correct)
2) Team D 5pts (3pts for a win + 2 bonus pts for 20 correct)
3) Team A 2pts (2 pts for 20 correct)
4) Team C 1pt (1 bonus pt for 10 correct)
Team B 29 v 22 Team C
Team D 27 v 27 Team A
1) Team B 11pts (3pts for a win, 2 bonus pts + last week's total 6pts)
2) Team D 8pts (1pt for draw, 2 bonus pts + last week's total 5pts)
3) Team A 5pts (1pt for draw, 2 bonus pts + last week's total 2pts)
4) Team C 3pts (2 bonus pts + last week's total 1pt)
Team A 29 v 24 Team C
Team B 28 v 30 Team D
1) Team D 14pts (3pts for win, 3 bonus pts + last week's total 8pts)
2) Team B 13pts (2 bonus pts + last week's total 11pts)
3) Team A 10pts (3pts for win, 2 bonus pts + last week's total 5pts)
4) Team C 5pts (2 bonus pts + last week's total 3pts)
If points are even at the end of the rounds, then the champions will be decided from the score accumulated by the respected team's highest scoring player. If Team D and Team B were equal on points at the end of the rounds, then it will go down to an individual performance. If the highest scoring member from Team D had scored 26 correct answers in the 3 rounds, and the highest scoring member from Team B had scored 25 correct answers, then the championship will go to Team D.
It might seem complicated, but it is simple and it is a tried and tested format.
The teams.
As far as I am concerned the more the merrier. However, I want to limit a league to six teams. If more teams are interested in joining, then we shall have 2 leagues.... with a round-robin play off from the top two sides in each league to decide the league champions. Running at the same time, the other teams will be assigned accordingly to lower leagues, which will set the tone for a 1st and 2nd Division should we choose to continue with the quiz league.
In the case of two leagues, a ranking system resulting from the league position from the last quiz will come into operation. Therefore, Leeds and Carlisle will not be pitted together in the initial leagues.
The highest scoring individual member rule will come into play throughout the league(s) should relative equal positions be crucial.
We had 5 teams last time who entered consistently (Leeds, Carlisle, Bansley, Doncaster, Accrington) with a handful of other teams competing for only one or two weeks. We do want people to last the course this time around. If you know of any other person(s) from other teams, or even your own team who you feel would like to represent their team in the quiz....then please get in touch with them. They will, however, need to register on this forum to compete.
The forum is in its infancy...and we have had teething problems, and the quiz hasn't altogether been unaffected. The problems are now sorted. We have a reliable media player and a whole page will be dedicated to the quiz on the forum website. From there you will be able to access everything to do with the quiz..and more besides.
If you are wanting to join the quiz, then please reply to this message on this thread and let us know what team you wish to represent. It doesn't matter how many of you want to represent a particular team. Obviously the more of you, the better chance you have of winning the league.
Another thing...you will need to activate your membership. A lot of registered users haven't yet activated their membership. This means, although you are able to post on here, you are unable to receive e-mails. I will not abuse my role as administrator on the forum by showering anybody with spam. I will only send e-mails, which I feel are relevant to this forum.
You can activate your membership by clicking on your profile at the top of your page.
One last point of note. On the website, I only mention the members who have scored the highest number of correct answers. This is simply because it would not be fair to show all members totals on the site, particularly when some only choose to answer certain sections of the quiz, i.e. music or sport. Should anyone wish to know their personal score, or indeed wish for their score to be recorded on the forum website, they can do so by either getting in touch with me via the forum's personal message utility, or by adding a message on the quiz board.
That's all for now folks, but do remember to add your name to this thread if you wish to compete in the quiz.... and should you know any other chap from another team..who enjoys quizzes...then give them a nudge.
I will keep you informed with regards to dates etc once I have an idea with regards to the number of competing teams.
I do not envisage the quiz commencing within the next four week..so there's plenty of time to prepare, and get the teams sorted.
Many Thanks
Brian
