pre-season? Barnsley, Carlisle, Leeds, Rotherham?
Has anyone been to a friendly....and if so, have they liked what they saw?

Ive had tomorrow marked on my calendar for years now, the day we visit Rotherham Its not going superbly at the moment Script, as our friendlies have been poor. But Im trying not to to lose sight of the fact that they are 'only' friendlies after all. A 2-2 at York during the week hardly set the pulses racing for us. The most exciting thing about that match was our new Brazil looking yellow and blue away kit.

Not been to any of the Leeds games, even though they were over here for a 3 game tour (shame on me eh!!!).....
From what I've heard and seen on LUTV, we are not exactly setting the world on fire at the moment. Got a couple of new players/ trialists etc... and these games are obviously all about getting ready for the new season, so I never read too much into them.
BUT.... Enoch Showunmi(sp) sounds absolutely cack and if he and Beckford are to be our main pairing this coming term then we are in trouble.
I have faith though.

Are you sure your not talking about Kayodi Odejayi instead of Eunoch thingy? Hes absolutely cack as well and it doesnt sound too promising for us for the new season at the moment!

Not been to any of the Leeds games, even though they were over here for a 3 game tour (shame on me eh!!!)..... The mind does indeed boggle. You pay a small fortune to travel to Elland Road every other week..... but then when Leeds play on your doorstep you don't bother watching them We really are taking the friendly situation literally. Our manager has been playing a different team for each half, and in each match. We've yet to see the strongest starting 11 as yet. Big game today...the prodigal son returns. We are playing Newcastle at home.

acido...if you see a blonde woman with a dark haired bloke and 2 kids....please feel fee to buy her a drink! ;D A word to the wise acido.....foo isn't permitted to buy alcohol in any licensed premises in Rotherham or Sheffield due to a problem with the drink, so she tries to find people to buy it for her. By all means buy her drink.... but on your head be it. And when you read in the Star on Monday... 'Rotherham Woman Arrested for Violent Behaviour at Friendly Game'..... I just hope you can sleep the night Foo.. re: the letter. I have to say, it doesn't look right good. You still owe the Football Foundation money..... and it looks like Booth isn't going to settle for anything less than what he feels he is fully owed.

Stopped bothering with the pre season games along time ago, they rarely provide any insight as to how the season is going to go for you,i have seen us win all the friendly's and look really good only to lose the first 3 or 4 games when the real action began,i have seen it the other way round too, once went to Wigan for a friendly the week before the season started ........Wigan at that time were in the bottom division.........we were awful......none of the new signing's looked fit...and we got a real chasing.........when the season began we won 6 out of our first 7 league games and ended up getting promoted to the Premiership.

The real business starts on aug 9th of course. But having confidence going into the start of a season counts for a lot, and these friendlies so far havent installed any confidence in our team at all. Quite the opposite Im afraid.

I didn't think either team played well when Rotherham played Barnsley...and I have to admit that I thought Barnsley would have been more impressive. Alex Rhodes came good for us and has given us a flavour of what's to come when the season starts.

We did a lot better last night, only losing 0-6 to Wigan was a brilliant achievement.
NOT!!

SO'D says he'd much prefer to play pre-season friendlies behind closed doors. At the end of the day it's all about trying things out.....see what works and what doesn't.

Yes we can argue all day and night about how important or non important these friendlies are... but would you really like to see your team play so sh*ite, and come up with the same old failed crappy tactics like Davey is doing for us at the moment?

acido- I'm glad I said what I did about the friendlies, because we got hammered 5-0 at home by Bolton last night. I didn't go, but from what I heard...apart from the players trying to make an impression, it was a truly woeful performance.

What's getting our backs up is Davey's pursuit of trying to make his idea's work despite trying them a number of time's last season and failing,Hassall in midfield......does not work........Kozluc at left back ....despite him been right footed and having at least 2 left footed options in that position.........the continued obssesion in playing Kayode despite the fact he cant cut it at this level.....has no confidence......and is fast becoming a player so ridiculed .....he's actually becoming a legend........he is the butt of all the humour down there. Davey's done a decent job so far ......but this season we want to be well away from the relegation spots and looking as though we are establishing ourselfs at this level.........Cryne's backed him with a decent budget ......of which we reckon there's still around a million quid un-spent ......we all know how hard this league is but rightly or wrongly we consider ourselfs a CCC club and this is where we belong......and fighting relegation every year is something we never use to consider .........years ago .......time for Davey to stop flogging dead horse's and deliver us an established CCC team we can be proud of .................or !!!!

If we were manager, Im sure we'd also like to stamp our own authority on the team. We'd want to do it our way, and not take kindly to people saying we should be doing it differently all the time etc..
But surely there does come a point where a boss has got to look at what hes doing, and hes got to change it if its not working. Surely we can all see where the problems are at the moment and I hope the Chairman can see them as well because the signs are that Davey still insists on doing it his way/the wrong way!

We're doing very well at the moment. -11 now, and we're looking strong. Mark Lynch (defender)wasn't impressive in the friendlies, but he came up the right wing at Morcambe and scored 2 beauties with his left foot...another by Taylor made the final score 3-1 for a strong looking Millers team.
We've signed free agent Drew Broughton for a month. He's a 6'3" striker and was on the bench at Morcambe, but played well for the reserves when they played Bradford City reserves yesterday.
I'm feeling much more positive now. Coughlan has gone to Shrewsbury Town, which has left the fan's favourite Pablo Mills as captain, and the players are really starting to gel. This was quite apparent after our win at Hillsbro. Wednesday played well...but Rotherham also played like a championship team. Our lads had a spirit and presence that i'd not experiance before, and the atmosphere was electric!
I've got my tickets for the next round in the Carling Cup against Wolves...hope we play like we did at Hillsbro.
UTM!
