I've just been having a look at a few boards and I have to say, that with the best of intentions, some Donny fans are looking a tad faint-hearted. I'm all for being unpretentious, humble and modest...but sometimes these traits can be seen as a sign of weakness. Some Donny fans on other boards..even our own boards, seem to want to justify our presence in the CCC. It's like someone bumping into you, and you apologising for being in the way. Arrogance has to play a part in life if you want to succeed. I wonder how many Donny fans out there are paying lip service and merely saying things they think they should say, as opposed to what they want to say. I like to be objective and deal in facts rather than conjecture.... but I am going to break the habit and say Donny are good enough to challenge for a play-off spot. We've got a great manager, excellent full backs, good centre backs...we've got Wellens..Elliot and Hayter. If other teams think we are easy pickings and their teams are far superior...then they are going to have to prove it on the pitch. I ain't gonna be beaten before a ball is kicked in anger. We shouldn't be saying 21st position will be a good season....because it would be a rubbish season. I want to see Donny challenging for promotion. If my hopes and dreams don't come to fruition...I'll look like an arrogant numpty, but so what..I'm big enough and ugly enough to take it. Donny are going to be a surprise package this season to those who claim to know about football in the CCC. Not to me though, I expect and want Donny to be in with a shout of a play-off spot.

I can see where you are coming from and fair play to you, nothing wrong in having a positive attitude,Bristol City did very well last season and there's always a suprise package .......so why cant it be Donny ?

I was a bit embarrassed with all the walking on eggshells that some Donny fans have been doing on message boards. They sound like we are timid gatecrashers.. but we've earned the right to play against Barnsley, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and I'll be looking to win these games. That's not say I think the CCC is easy, far from it...but I think you need to get that positive mindset.

I think alot of Donny fan's are maybe walking on eggshell's because you are now in un-chartered water's and can see the size and the amount of money these club's are spending and maybe feel a little intimidated,i think that's one of the reason's why we have struggled away from home since we came back to this level.

On the same score, and I'm not looking to 'big' Barnsley up here because they are my number 1 enemy this season..... but I read the reports on Barnsley matches last season and read the stats and it seemed you weren't out of your depth....and at one time you were right up there. Donny are notoriously slow starters. If we can get off to a reasonable start, I'll be a happy man.

its funny actually we were discussing this in the pub last night and the feeling among my crowd is why have we developed this inferiority complex at this level,we have spent more season's in this league than any other club in the country and this is where we belong.........so we should be bulling ourselfs up a little more ......instead of the negativity.

I suppose I come into the category of walking on eggshells. I am just a bit cautious, because as you say Animal, we are in unchatered waters and I just don't really know what to expect. Having said that though, I watched the play off games, and I wasn't impressed by Watford, who I thought looked very ordinary.....maybe my judgment is clouded by us been one of the smaller clubs in the division financially...I don't know!
It will be very interesting though as to how we do perform.

Thats correct Animal, but remember that was in the days before we went down to the dreaded Lg One 6 seasons ago. The Champship as its now called, has changed drastically since we were away, and its fair to say the first season or two back in there was always going to be a struggle for teams like us, Southend, Colchester, Scunny, Blackpool etc.. Colchester did superbly in their first season back there, and Bristol City did the same. However, look what happened to colchester after that, relegation!! So will Bristol find it similarly hard the second time around? I reckon they just might. No offense to Blackpool, but I can see why they are the bookies new choice as rank outsiders, like we are usually every season.

The CCC really seems to be a tale of two perceptions. If you're not perceived to be good enough for promotion... then you are bulked together with the teams perceived to be candidates for relegation. In the Premier League there are teams like Spurs, Aston Villa, Everton, Man City etc, who you know aren't going to win the league, but equally you wouldn't have them down for relegation either. Last season in League One, I didn't think teams like; Huddersfield, Oldham, Tranmere, Brighton, would make a realistic challenge for the top two places, but neither did I expect them to go down. In the CCC there seems to be a consensus that half of the teams are ready to battle it out for promotion, and the other half prepared to do battle against relegation. It never works out that way though as Bristol City and Hull City City showed us last year....

Hull deserve even more credit to be fair, because they won promotion in the season immediately after the one where they fighting off relegation with Leeds. That shows how unpredictable this division is, and that surely adds to its excitement.
