Donny once played Sheffield Wednesday, around 1978 time, in the league cup... and I was late getting to the ground because of work. I went in by the usual pop side entrance ....only to find three quarters of the ground had been taken over by Wednesday fans, including the popular side. The only Donny fans at the ground were stood in the town-end and in what we used to call cow-sheds....and I had to try and get there through the hoards of Wednesday hooligans. I wasn't wearing a scarf or anything like that.....but it felt like I had Doncaster Rovers tattooed on my forehead.

I was in Turin in 1980 for the England v Belgium European Championship group game, when Belgium equalised it kicked off big time and the Italian police sprayed us with tear gas the players then had to leave the field, running battles carried on with Italy's finest throughout the rest of the first half and neither the English or Italian police were taking prisoner's,scary stuff.

The next time you're at the library.....ask them to order you 'Among the Thugs' by Bill Buford. I guarantee you'll not be able to put it down once you've started to read it.

Been to Ibrox 3 or 4 times to watch the Celts and coming out of the ground afterwards is enough to make me empty my bowels.....

I hear Rangers against Aberdeen is also a tasty affair.
People reckon the atmosphere at an old firm game is the very best. I've never been....but love to go to one..... I hear what you say about the rivalry though exiled.... it's fuelled by more than football.

Must admit script, Aberdeen and Celtic do not particularly get on well but it is nothing compared to the goings on between Aberdeen and Rangers - Aberdeen always up their game when the Gers come to their town and the fans are no different either. Never been to one of these games but have heard that they are hate-fuelled....
...if you ever get a chance, get along to an OF game. The atmosphere is 2nd to none, if the game is bad then the crowd banter is more than enough to keep you entertained. Sometimes the noise is so intense you can feel it beat through your body and the stands feel like they are going to collapse when the team scores.....
.....not good for my ticker (or bowels)

I was in Glasgow on an old firm match day....must have been about twenty years ago. I have never seen a city more divided in my life. When you hear about Sheffield being one half blue and the other half red...it's in the theoretical sense.....but Glasgow was actually split. Those associated with Celtic.. shopped, drank, and ate in one part of the city..... Irish flags everywhere. Those associated with Rangers in another part...the Union Jack being the order of the day. The city came to life.... but I didn't see no violence. It was mostly a carnival atmosphere...

We once were sat in the family stand at millmoor (when the old main stand was still up) when we were playing man city at home. We were aware that a couple of city fans were sitting around us, but didn't become aware of how many until they scored! Nearly all the family stand stood up and cheered, and we were sat right in the middle them!!!!!!!!!!

I expect that'll take the prize for most terrifying experience donnyrover. In the seventies we used to get away fans throwing stones from Rosso end. Bradford were the worse for that..... but I never got hurt as much as you did.

I didn't see any. I don't even think the Wednesday fans ran the Doncaster from the the popular side....I think it was a case of Donny Kop being packed full of Wednesday fans before the Donny lot got to the match.
