I went down the other road.... I want to hate Barnsley...psyche up some rivalry, but I still had to have Barnsley game on BBC live text, and couldn't help but want Barnsley get a result. I'm pleased for Rotherham....and a decent crowd as well at the Don Valley Stadium.

If Davey's still in the job ......come october time ......i will be very suprised..........the same old frailties emerged today ......cant defend set pieces .....and missing chances at 1-0 up and not putting the game away ......Davey's not got Shepherd to defend him now and Cryne's not invested decent money this close season to see us struggle..........

What I can't understand about Davey is his insistence to bring players in. During his time as manager he's brought in over 30 players either through transfers or on loan. He seems to be forever rebuilding. I'm not sure if this is the right way to go about things. The team I saw get promoted to the CCC was the best footballing side in league one at the time. Southend and Colchester tended to play hoof ball. Barnsley got it down and played some good football. I think you were only about 10 games in when Ritchie got sacked.

My god your right script .........funny how when you are close to the club you dont always see things for what they are ........its like the bloody Forth Bridge down there ........always short of some player .....or meddling about with others .......get a grip Davey .....your two and half years into this job and you still cant decide what we need .

It does seem a tad cyclic clean out > start again > clean out > start again. One good thing that has come out of it though, is that he has unearthed a couple of outstanding players, i.e. Steele and Muller.

We were absolutely brill on Saturday script. Some of our one touch passing was out of this world. The highlights never shown derby chasing shadows OLE OLE OLE Bring on Cardiff ;D

The highlights never shown derby chasing shadows OLE OLE OLE Bring on Cardiff ;D I was listening to the game on the radio and a passage of play in the second half had the commentators drooling...something like 15-20 passes before Derby touched the ball. It said the passing and movement was reminiscent of the 1970s Leeds team. It's important we keep our feet firmly on the ground..... but it's a great start

Even though rovers were great on Saturday... i can see the problems ahead for rovers. Its going to be harder than i first anticipated. Rovers gave 150% on Saturday... against a slack derby side.
I just hope we don't have to work that hard all season because rovers will be burnt out by Christmas; however, i think the derby game was a one off... what with all the factors making it a hard game!

Its good that you say that Script, and I think this needs to be pointed out to some of our fans sometimes because they dont give Ritchie the credit he deserves. I suppose Im the same in not giving Davey any credit for what hes done so far, but lets not forget Davey wouldnt be doing his job in the Champship if it wasnt for Ritchie winning promotion.

I think if anything Ritchie was ahead of schedule. I don't think he envisaged Barnsley going up that season... and unfortunately it was to his detriment that they did. I thought he brought the best out in players. Devaney was on fire.... few teams could handle him.

Yes, maybe if there ever was proof that a team can win promotion 'before their time', you could say that Ritchie's Barnsley team in 2005-06 was a classic example.
Its been said about us in the past, that we werent quite ready yet, like the Mel Machin team in 1990-91, or the Danny Wilson team in 1994-95.
What exactly though, does not ready mean?

The way I saw it Barnsley getting promotion in 2006 caught everyone by surprise. Ritchie said himself that he had a three year plan, and promotion in his first full season wasn't part of it. Promotion certainly wasn't budgeted in the club's finances. The purse strings were pretty tight for Ritchie in the summer of 2006 compared to what Davey is seeing.
If I remember rightly Mel Machin had a good first season, followed by a bad second season. As for the Wilson era, ultimately there was a great feeling of camaraderie at Barnsley, amongst the team and supporters.... but it didn't happen overnight for Wilson. Wilson had the time and support to build his own team, which is more than Ritchie got in my opinion.
