One punter on another web site was having a go at quizzes in general saying that all answers could be googled. Well here's a quiz I want you to google "If you can", it's all about 1978. There is only 5 if anyone can answer all 5 I'll eat my pit cap.
1. Athletics,--- Who became the 1st runner since Roger Banister (1954) to run a sub 4 minute mile on the Iffley Road,Oxford track on the 23rd June 1978. 2. Football,--- Which European team was the 1st to visit China on the 17th May 1978. 3. Boxing,--- Mate Parlov retained the world lightweight title by outpointing John Conteh at the Red Star soccer stadium Belgrade 18th June 1978 who was the referee. 4. Horse Racing,---Name the winner of the 1st flat race of the 1978 season. 5. Darts,--- Laughton Rees became the Embassy World Champion on the 10th February 1978 when he beat John Lowe 11-7 in the final but who did he beat 8-7 in the semi-final.
Best of luck.

1. Craig Masback 2. I seem to remember West Brom going to China in the late 70s. Other than that I'd prompt for a club from a communist country- Red Star Belgrade, Ujpesti Dozsa, or Dynamo Moscow. 3. I remember the fight well. The Yugoslavian was a tall awkward fighter. No Idea of the ref though. 4. It would have been at Donny. Captain's Wing won the Lincoln Handicap...but that wouldn't have been the first race. You have me well and truly stumped UTC

Time for the answers lad's 1. Craig Musback. 2.West Brom. 3. Rudy Ortega. 4. St Jills, B. Hills, P. D'Arcy. 14/1 25th March 1978. 5. Nick Virachkul. u.s.a. Thank's for the interest. Scriptman you did exceptionally well the West Brom answer was very good you weren't in the Yorkshire Sports Quiz League in the 1970's and 1980's by any Chance were you? I ask you this because there was a team from the Dearne Valley region the great Mexbourough A.C. team. I myself was in a team for a few years.

I was living in Donny up until the early 90s upthecolliers. I used to enjoy going to quiz nights, but I was never good enough for a quiz league. The West Brom question... it was in my golden age of football. Pre-marriage, pre-stress, and all you had to concern about was where your next quid was coming from to buy a couple of pints. My whole life revolved around football in those days. Great times. I wouldn't have got the boxing question, although I've heard of him.
Cheers for that matey... I enjoyed it.
