Carrying on with the 'are they as good' theme, just what do people make of rap artist Eminem?
I quite like the song 'Stan', which featured Dido (he says drooling like Homer Simpson) but as for Eminem? ..for me, one word says it all 'overrated'.
I feel there was a need to create an Eminem for white middle-class American youths.

RAP is utter rubbish, I can't stand it!!!!!!!!!!! BUT...I must say, that I think Eminem is acceptable. His "songs" actually have a melody and are very cleverly written, and you can hear what he says...also some intelligent humour in there, I think. This is my favourite of his. Listen to all the lyrics to the end. youtube.com/watch?v=lS7qqbkBAL0

Not into rap myself but i rate the guy, think he's got plenty to say and he's not had the best life when he was a kid growing up, he's pretty much worked his butt off to get where he is,i respect that, certainly no Simon Cowell around in 1990's Detroit trailer parks that's for sure.

I seem to be disagreeing with you a lot these days, scriptman, but I think Eminem was successful because he sounds totally different from all the other rap artists; and his talent is quite apparent. If he was black, he'd have still been successful because his songs are very good. They tell stories that aren't just about guns and mother f***kers, are cleverly written, and he also sings on them.
I agree about your link though! lol ;D

I'm not entirely sure Foo. Nobody seems to want confirm his chidhood... Also who is really responsible for the writing of his songs has been a matter of debate in the press. I just think there was a need to invent him. There' s a lot of institutionalised racism in the US... and prejudices in general...particularly in the Southern States. Like it or not, rap is a huge... and folk were crying out for a working-class/middle-class boy to take on the black rap artists at their own game. It might be me being cynical... but I'd be surprised if he was the best rapper in the States... but he's sold the most records. I'm not a fan of rap... but I find songs like Gangsters Paradise and Ghetto Gospel truly great song... and, in my opinion, head and shoulders above what Eminem has turned out. .... but by far the best rap song ever to come out has to be This One

lol
I can see where you're coming from...but I think music is analysed too much, and should be enjoyed for what it is. So I like Eminem, because he sounds good; regardless of who wrote the songs. The fact is, he sounds good and delivers them well....something, in my opinion....other rap artists simply cannot do.
